1. Talent is one-third of the success equation.
Talent is important in any profession, but it is no guarantee of success. Hard work and luck are equally important. Hard work means self-discipline and sacrifice. Luck means, among other things, access to power, whether it is social contacts or money or timing. In fact, if you are not very talented, you can still succeed by emphasizing the other two. If you think I am wrong, just look around.

Do I know what is expected me at work?
Do I have the material and equipment I need to do my work right?
At work, do I have the opportunity to do what I do best everyday?
In the last seven days have I receive the recognition or praise for good work?
Does my supervisor or someone at work seem to care about me at the person?
Does someone at work encourage my development?
At work, does my opinion seem to count?
Does the mission or the purpose of my company make it feel like my work is important?
